There's A Monster On The Loose

Whether or not you've actually been paying attention, the time has come for every American to open his or her eyes and, rather than recoiling in fear at the sight, muster the courage to join those allying in the interest of slaying the beast once and for all.

This particular monster lives on fear and becomes ever more powerful simply because those in a positon to know better have taken to feeding the damn thing on a steady diet of the minds of our young people. Unwitting or not, as it turns out, most people don't ever see it until it's too late.

The monster has three heads, each of which is capable of inflicting incredible pain and violence in its own right. When they work together as a single unit, however, the heads are nearly invincible. Those three heads are: ignorance, intolerance, and injustice, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Ignorance: uses the tools of deception and fear. It mesmerizes its prey through a constant flow of hypnotic pronouncements, most frequently in the guise of protecting the young. The best defense against this head is the shield of truth. But defending against this head alone will not slay the monster -- remember that there are still two other heads to deal with.

Intolerance: is a particularly difficult enemy. Its weapons of choice are denigration and subjugation. It whispers a message gently and constantly in the ears of its prey: "they are different ... different is strange ... strange is bad ... bad is evil ... destroy the evil." The best defense against this head is the ability to recognize the basic humanity of each of us. Religion is supposed to imbue one with this characteristic, but simple observation of the world around us indicates that the lesson is yet to be learned.

Injustice: is the weakest of the heads -- but while the other two heads still exist it simply cannot be defeated. Injustice uses the color of law to cloak itself, hiding behind the self-righteousness provided by intolerance, and the misdirections of ignorance. This head may be merely parried until the other two heads are cleaved from the monster's body when the final death blow may be delivered against the beast.

America where are you now
Don't you care about your sons and daughters
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

-- from "Monster," by Steppenwolf

In light of the above, I have adopted "Monster" as the official song of the anti-drugwar czar. Read the complete song lyrics on my site, and start arming yourself for battle. This thing must be slain.

It's so true, Brian. The government has blinded people to believe that if you're against the drug "war" you're for using drugs. Americans have been lied to so much about the "drug war" they're convinced it's Gospel truth.

It's especially difficult to discuss this issue with conservatives. Take, for instance, Sean Hannity. I tried to discuss this rationally on his radio show recently, and all Sean could do was parrot the RNC talking points and rudely interrupt me with his childish antics -- namely, feigning smoking a joint on the air. I am unsure of how much of the call actually made the airwaves. At least Sean's friend Rush Limbaugh got it, but, sadly, that was only after the Palm Beach County prosecutor went after him.

But they cannot explain the fact that when alcohol prohibition ended, violent crime went down. And in those European nations which have legalized drugs, addiction rates and crime rates likewise went down. I guess that went down the memory hole.

The "war on drugs" is a horrendous lie, people. Get the real facts.

hi george,

thanks for weighing in. as i've been researching the past ten decades of drugwar, i've noticed that the dialogue between the two sides has basically been stalemated since the early 1970's.

when both sides are caught in such an obvious stalemate, it is clearly time to try something different. to that end, i am attempting to help alter the dialogue and focus on just how inconsequential the government's pronouncements actually are.

for example, when they decry a 142 percent increase in hospital marijuana mentions, i point out that such mentions account for only one-tenth of one percent of all hospital emergency room visits, and that of the people who acutally use marijuana, less than one half of one percent go to an emergency room and "mention" marijuana.

how can it be a "problem" if such a tiny fraction of users suffer the effect? it can't, and the government's own data make that readily obvious.

i hope you've had a change to visit my website "truth: the anti-drugwar" at http://www.briancbennett.com -- i've tracked down all of the petinent government data so it can be exposed as the ridiculously inconsequential bunk that it is.

we have the truth, we just need to say it the right way: in a context that makes it obvious how irrelevant it actually is.

more importantly, we need to get people to realize that the issue is really not about the use of "unapproved" intoxicants -- the real issue is that people are being puinished for what they choose to do to themselves. how in the world can that happen in the "land of the free?"

if we are all equals, then how does anyone get to "vote" on the decisions you make about what you do to yourself? they don't. today, it's the smokers of the "wrong" plants being persecuted -- who's next? on what ground wll they defend themselves from such tyranny?

every one of us has been brainwashed about the "evils" of drugs (except alcohol, of course) for our entire lives. that's a lot to overcome.

but at the heart of the matter, it isn't really about drugs -- it's about the simple fact that no one has a 'right' to hold us accountable to them over what we do to ourselves of our own free will.

Thanks for accepting my oppinion just as that. fact is I would be the same as yours if I was healthy.
Watching what happens on the show. CoPPs, and what they do to people that are buying a dime bag could parrilize me for life. And on the show they know they are being recorded. God knows what they do when they are not on film. I can't phisically help with any real protest anymore ..sorry ..Carry on.

i only decided to stand up and start making noise because it dawned on me one day that although i was supposedly "protecting" our freedom and rights, i myself didn't even have the most fundamental of rights.

COPS is certainly an interesting window on society's treatment of 'evil dopers' -- if the cops are willing to go to that extent to "protect" society from drugs, imagine what they will do to "protect" us from terrorism.

frankly, i'd rather take my cahnces on the terrorists killing me, than my benevolent protectors doing it.

we will put an end to this nonsense - as soon as people realize that they can't play mommy and daddy for their equals.

Sir, I don't understand why no one else has joined your fight. I don't understand why only 4 people have posted. What can I do to help you correct this horrible injustice? Does anyone even listen? Does anyone even care?

hi jonv2.1,

there are literally thousands of people working to bring an end to the drug war -- so it really isn't a question of "no one" else joining the fight.

as to anyone listening to me personally: i literally came out of nowhere to start doing my part (i was hidden away in the depths of the US intelligence apparatus) -- and it takes a while to generate name recognition, buzz, etc -- especially for someone completely unknown.

to really learn about what i'm doing, please visit my main website: http://www.briancbennett.com and you'll find all the ammo you need to get yourself well versed in the issues as well as a great resource to point other people toward.

i've been steadily gaining traffic to the site (http://www.briancbennett.com/stats.htm) and yes, people certainly do listen, and they do care: but the internet is a huge place, so my efforts basically boil down to a voice crying out in the wilderness trying to get attention.

people are hearing what i'm saying and they are indeed joining in. some quote my work (in books even), some send donations so that i can continue, and i even get lucky enough to have my editorials printed in the mainstrema media every now and again.

we have over 100 years of propaganda to overcome -- and the people of the nation generally don't care about the issue. tough odds -- but i have a habit of only working on the "impossible."

visit my site and help pass the word around. and for a quick look at just how deep and broad my site actually is, have a look at my "anti-drugwar arsenal:" http://www.briancbennett.com/pagelist.htm

spread the word.

thanks,

b

I spent thirty days in jail and paid more than $1700 in fines (plus lawyers fees, court costs, and the costs of attending state-madated brainwashing sessions and submitting to random drug screenings) for 3 grams of marijuana. (I've blogged about at Bitter Old Punk) I'm adding this site and your immensely helpful briancbennett.com to my blogroll. As soon as I finish paying off these fines and attending these stupid, stupid classes, I'll be making a contribution. Keep up the good work!

hi bitter,

god damn, i can't believe these fuckers call themselves americans! if i end up in a similar boat, i can see that i will have a great deal of difficulty with the jeebus squad.

i'm sure you can get into plenty of trouble all by yourself, but i've always wondered if somebody could explain why it's legal to light a plant on fire simply to inhale the ensuing smoke into your lungs, and it's legal to turn your brain into silly putty with a liquid intoxicant, then how in the world is it illegal to combine the two acts into a more efficient act? could you ask them? ;^)

i enjoyed your blog and writing style, and i'll be back to visit for sure.

your story needs to be heard far and wide and you've started that wheel in motion with your writing. the main barrier to changing things is that we are forced to hide in the shadows anonamously, hoping that we ourselves never hear the words "you have the right to remain silent."

keep spreading the word, keep using the stuff on my site and keep telling anyone who will listen that we have no right to punish people for what they do to themselves.

and, better yet, the government's own data make it blatantly obvious that we have no reason to be waging war on our own people. that's one reason why my site is there -- thanks for the link.

it's not about drugs -- it's about the right to decide how to touch yourself. today it's the stoners, tomorrow who knows?
